The Jelly Jar brings back memories of the good ol' days when life was simple. This memory of a cup has been in my life since I can remember. It used to be that Mom would buy a jar of jelly from the neighbors and we'd have to wait for the marmalade to be gone before claiming our favorite cup. It was a daily battle amongst siblings in our home to see who got the last jelly sandwich. If Mom scraped the last sticky tidbit of jam out of this jar for your toast or sandwich, that made a claim for victory to the jelly cup. After an elaborate ceremony at the diner table, Mom would hand you a magic marker from her apron and you could write your name on the jar. It was from that point on that the Jelly Jar was for your use only.
Now, as an adult, I get a certain sense of pride as we recreate this treasured trophy for all to share in the victory. It is with a little smile to the past that I can sip on my coffee and drift back to the winners platform. But truthfully, sometimes you just need a cup with a handle!
